What you should know about

Packaging tape

Packaging tape has become almost indispensable in many companies. We use it to seal boxes of all kinds and don't think much about how important it is and how much we actually use every day.

Packaging tape is not "just" packaging tape. It is extremely important to find the right tape for your packaging tasks. Here we will try to give you an overview of the tape's structure, use and storage.

Find the right tape

For many people, packaging tape is "just" packaging tape, but we recommend that you find the right tape for your packing tasks. There are many different qualities, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can find your optimal type of tape by reading about the quality of tape types under Packaging tape. If you still have questions regarding tape type, do not hesitate to contact our sales team on tel. +4587375537 or via the contact field. Here you can also order a sample roll so you can test the tape before buying.

When you have found the right tape for your packing tasks, you will be able to close your boxes with a minimal consumption of tape. You avoid overconsumption, which benefits the environment, and your economy. Both time and money is saved!

If your boxes need to be refrigerated/frozen after application, you can use any tape that suits your needs. It is only a problem if the tape is to be applied in low or freezing temperatures. Here, a PP natural rubber tape is the only right one.

Our PVC tape is really good for styrofoam boxes. But PPHM High Tack is also an option.

On boxes made of recycled cardboard (testliner), it is a good idea to find a tape with a natural rubber adhesive. It could be a PP natural rubber or a PVC tape. But there can be great variation in the structure of the cardboard boxes. If you send us a cardboard box, we will be happy to help you finding the best suitable tape.

It depends on the surface in question. We always recommend that you test it on a inconspicuous place before use. Contact us for delivery of a sample roll on phone +45 87375544 or via the contact field.

Do you already know our practical magnetic foil? It leaves no adhesive residue and can be replaced as often as needed.

Tape review

A packaging tape consists of a backing and an adhesive. The most common backings: PVC, PP and Paper are applied with one of the following adhesive types: natural rubber, acrylic adhesive or hot melt.

Natural rubber (solvent) has a very flexible adhesive ability and fastens immediately. A good problem solver.
Acrylic (water-based) has good adhesion, but fastens better after a while. Good UV and aging resistance.
Hot Melt is a synthetic extra strong adhesive for special applications. For example in packaging machines, as it fastens very quickly. This glue is less suitable for use in damp environments or for damp cardboard boxes.

The backing is also available in several variants. The stronger the backing, the longer the tape will last. Both the PP foil and the PVC backing are available in different thicknesses. In addition to the thickness, the backing itself also plays a role. The PP backing is elastic, which the PVC backing is not. This makes the PP backing better resistant to shocks, which is optimal in packaging machines.

We will try to give an overview of the different combinations of backing and adhesive including a small description of the qualities.

PVC characteristics: Polyvinyl clorid. Unelastic lenghtwise, can be streched widthwise. Reuseable without any problems. A hard backing without phthalates. Printable. Only available with:

PVC adhesive: Natural rubber based.

Many people prefer this tape because of its firm unrolling , which makes application of the tape easier.

PP characteristics: Polypropylene. Can be stretched lengthwise, not widthwise. Printable. Available with the following adhesive:

Natural rubber adhesive: Natural rubber based.

This adhesive in combination with the PP backing is the perfect combination if the tape is to be applied in cold or freezing areas.

Acrylic adhesive: Water based.

Hot Melt adhesive: Applies to backing by heat.

Ecomask characteristics: Crepe paper. Can be torn over, no scissors or knife necessary. FSC label. Printable. Available with:

Natural rubber adhesive: Natural rubber based.

Hot Melt adhesive: Synthetically produced, which is applied to the backing by heat.

How to store packaging tape

We recommend that you do not buy packing tape for more than approx. half a years consumption. Both in terms of durability, but also that you are not left with a lot of packing tape that suddenly does not fit any new packaging.

For optimal durability, the tape must be stored at room temperature, preferably 18-25° C. Leave the tape in the box as long as possible, so that it is protected from light. Make sure that the rollers are not exposed to moisture, cold or heat.

For PVC tape If the storage temperature is below 18° C, there is a greater risk that the tape will break during unwind.  Therefore, it is recommended that the rolls approx. 24 hours before use, is stored at 18-20° C, so that the tapes quality become optimal again.

If the storage temperature exceeds 25 °C over a longer period of time, the adhesive may melt and settle on the side of the rollers. This weakens the quality of the adhesive, as the adhesive layer becomes thinner. Place the box in a spot where it is not exposed to direct heat or sunlight.
